Raising the Roof

The construction phase of our Listed barn project in Little Rissington is progressing well. The eaves of the barn had dropped a consistent amount along the front elevation. There was a few different theories regarding why this might have happened but the most likely was that there were previously staddle stones underneath the posts and these had been removed at some point in the barn’s history causing the trusses to drop. The challenge for the contractor was to re-align the roof structure and raise the eaves to their former height. This was done very carefully under the supervision of a structural engineer to ensure that the overall structure was not impacted by the process.

During the course of the construction there was another surprise the missing staddle stones were discovered underneath the modern concrete topping! They are in good condition and will be reinstated as part of the project.
