No. 3 Restaurant

No 3 is a successful restaurant located in the lower ground floor of a Grade II* Listed former townhouse in the historic Royal Crescent which is in the heart of Cheltenham. The restaurant was conceived by Phil Vickery MBE, former England Rugby captain and Celebrity Masterchef winner in 2011.

The restaurant is a real success, despite opening in July 2020 in the middle of the COVID pandemic, and now is looking to expand its dining and kitchen facilities.

The team at No 3 approached design storey at the start of the year to explore designs for expansion to include a new glazed dining area and open kitchen concept. The location is very sensitive due to both the listing of the crescent and also the wider context of the conservation area. The concept was very simple, to create a new hot kitchen and a lightweight dining room addition infilling between the adjacent buildings, connected via a glazed corridor.

Historical maps illustrate that there were previous additions to the rear of the crescent therefore the design follows the grain and pattern of development in this area.  The project is currently in the planning stages with construction scheduled to start later in the year.
