RESIDENTIAL REMODEL | CONTEMPORARY EXTENSION
Situated in a secluded position on the edge of a lovely cotswolds village, close to Bourton on the Water, this 5 bedroomed house dates from the late twentieth century and is nestled in extensive grounds which include mature gardens, a lake and a paddock.
In addition to the main house, there is also ancillary accommodation in the form of a large annex and boathouse, all with far-reaching views over the surrounding countryside and nearby racing gallops.
The current owners were attracted by its idyllic setting and the level of accommodation and potential of the property having purchased it at the start of the year a view to create a long-term home in the Cotswolds with a contemporary design.
They approached Design Storey with a brief to transform and enhance the main house and create a leisure and wellness area to include a gym, swimming pool and party barn.
We always listen to the client’s requirements, however this project was a little different as they had only recently purchased the property and were open to ideas of what might be possible. We felt the brief could be challenged and expanded beyond their initial ideas to really transform the house and create a home that was both functional and made the most of its unique setting.
We encouraged the client to consider using large expanses of glazing to the rear to maximise the views of the surrounding landscape and gardens. We critiqued the layout of the existing house questioning the size and location of the spaces to ensure it was fit for their lifestyle in both the short and long term.
The clients were very open to this approach and the proposals included a new two-storey extension to the rear to create a master bedroom suite with panoramic views to the garden, a new corner window to reach out to the lake and reconfiguration of the internal layout to create an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area in the western wing.
These alterations will transform the house, unlocking its potential and enhancing the new owners lifestyle.
The project received planning permission this summer and the first phase, which includes the party barn and gym has now been completed. Here is a sneak peak at the finished party barn and we will share more completed photos soon.
