Cotswolds Retreat

A beautiful Cotswolds stone home reconnected to its landscape

This project was about more than just remodelling a house, but how to connect a house to its landscape.

Attracted by its idyllic setting, the owners purchased this property with a view to create a long-term home in the Cotswolds with a contemporary design. However, the existing  H-shaped cotswold stone house didn’t take advantage of its unique location. Our proposals added a contemporary extension to the house, infilling the centre of the H, to create a living room and master bedroom with full height glazing providing stunning views to the surrounding landscaped gardens.

The owners had impeccable taste in furniture and the design of the house provides a minimalist backdrop for their collection of beautifully-crafted pieces. The lounge features a large glazed wall with views and access to the grounds, the walls are painted dark blue which provides a contrast with the contemporary furniture and gives intimacy to the space.

The centre of the house was remodelled and opened up to create a dramatic double-height entrance hallway, with a bespoke steel stair and galleried landing, and a feature chandelier. The existing house was completely refurbished with a consistent and restrained palette of colours and textures to provide visual interest.

The master bedroom suite has floor-ceiling glazing, providing access to a private balcony, which has views across to the existing lake and new swimming pool.
